Job Summary

The Assistant Manager will primarily be working to support Capital (Capex) projects, specialist vehicle conversions components sourcing and Opex in support of the entire organisation.

Role Responsibilities

A high level of responsibility will be given requiring the ability to multi-task and achieve sometimes tough deadlines. There will be a high degree of interaction with internal stakeholders and suppliers; therefore being able to communicate effectively at all levels is vital. 

The Assistant Manager will support in all aspects of Purchasing including:

  • Sourcing of goods/services through sometimes extensive and complex negotiations with UK and overseas suppliers both over the phone and face to face
  • Analysing quotes to identify the optimum position for Millbrook and making sourcing recommendations as appropriate. Implementing new agreements ensuring all financial, quality and delivery considerations have been detailed
  • Conducting stakeholder reviews across the business and at all levels to drive the delivery of purchasing projects
  • Proactively managing suppliers to review and renegotiate to optimise financial, delivery and quality gains
  • Participating in meetings
  • Becoming competent with the procurement systems (Internal procedures and Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Co-ordinating Requests for Quotations (RFQ)
  • Developing new processes and industry best practices
  • Supplier audits with focus on Business Continuity (ISO 22301:2012)
  • Reviewing, recommending and implementing opportunities for commercial and operational improvements to Opex spend
  • Understanding and awareness of contractual terminology to mitigate risk, and implementing new supplier agreements
  • Support and coaching of junior team
  • Assist with the development and support of key Purchasing strategies


There will also be a requirement for analytical support, preparing and working to key metrics to drive operational performance.

The candidate will gain a detailed understanding of the Purchasing process with particular focus on competitive tendering and negotiation practices. There will be extensive use of specific computer software and a variety of communication tools. The experience should also give valuable insights into behaviours and practices of a Medium to Large sized Enterprise as well as a detailed and interesting introduction to the Motor Industry.




  • CIPS or Degree level qualification in a business related field are desirable


  • Experience within a similar buying or assistant manager role
