Durability Engineer Vehicle Group

The successful candidate will be responsible for the correct execution of vehicle-based tests and the appropriate test vehicle issue analysis (root cause) with the objective of optimising timing and quality of test programmes. This includes involvement in the whole process, from the initial contact, through quote compilation and follow-up, work planning, procedure/legislation research, issue of test instructions and instrumentation requirements, providing technical support to technicians and drivers, in-depth data analysis using various software, test results presentation and reporting to customers and information provision for invoicing. 

Role Responsibilities

  • Specify vehicle instrumentation in order to meet complex customer requirements
  • Prepare all necessary documentation to conduct the tests in a safe, controlled and repeatable manner
  • Supervise tests in compliance with test procedures, analyse and interpret driver reports and data
  • Provide instructions to test drivers and technicians
  • Make engineering judgements regarding the performance of the customer test vehicles and quality of test data
  • Validate vehicles against measurable targets as well as conducting subjective vehicle evaluations
  • Compile incident reports
  • Compile evaluation reports
  • Resolve technical issues
  • Plan and organise time and resources to fulfil the requirements of each test program
  • Fully understand the customer requirements of test programs and communicate the requirements clearly to other staff
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for Millbrook staff at all times.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant Engineering discipline

 

Experience

  • Vehicle testing
  • Conducting technical investigations and report writing
  • Quality or Corrosion testing experience (preferred but not essential)
  • Data acquisition (preferred)
  • Knowledge of sensor types and applications (preferred)
  • EV/ Hybrid vehicles (preferred but not essential)
  • Vehicle network systems – CAN, LIN, FlexRay.(preferred)
  • Vehicle diagnostics – OBD, UDS (preferred)

Skills

  • Good communications skills both oral and written. 
  • Sound Engineering background
  • Good PC skills
  • Confident when dealing with customers both face to face and on the phone
  • Ability to work well in a team.

Other

  • Flexibility to support test activity both off-site and outside of normal working hours

  • Full UK driving licence (Motorcycle, HGV or PSV advantageous)
  • SC clearance or ability to achieve this
  • Willing to undergo a Basic Disclosure (DBS) check
