Fabricator - Main Vehicle Workshop

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fabrication Technician to join the Central Operations function within Millbrook. Reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor, the successful candidate will be flexible and multi-skilled in various metalwork techniques. The role will involve supporting all departments across our 700-acre site, with work ranging from the operation of lathe and milling machines, to welding and fabricating various items using MIG and TIG welding plants.

Role Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day fabrication of parts as requested from various sources and customers
  • Welding using various techniques
  • Aluminium welding / fabrication
  • Vehicle body-shell modifications and re-work
  • Corrosion vehicle body tear downs
  • Write-up of completed work tickets to record work carried out in detail
  • Liaise with Engineering employees regarding work requests
  • Provide assistance to all departments as required

Essential Criteria

  • Recognised qualification in at least one of the following; machine operation, welding or toolmaking
Essential Skills
  • Competent welder in MIG, TIG and Gas welding
  • Competent in the use of all fabrication equipment, including air and manual tools
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanical systems
  • Solid skills base in the use of the lathe and milling machines
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Ability to work as a team member or autonomously, following instruction and direction from Lead Technician and Fabrication Supervisor
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures and practices
  • Flexible, self-driven and reliable
  • Excellent housekeeping practices
  • Safe use of slings, gantry and lifting tackle
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in aluminium TIG welding
  • Recognised qualification in Motor Vehicles
  • Availability for overtime as required, including weekends
  • Work a possible rotation shift pattern, when required
