Principal Engineer - Special Projects

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Principal Engineer to provide Senior-level technical support and direction to the Special Projects group at Millbrook. The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact on technical issues for customers and all relevant departments within Millbrook and ultimately ensuring that our product design reflects the volume and pricing strategy of the proposed product / service.

The Principal Engineer will also support the Business Development team in new business acquisition through the creation of technical data to support the bid process and proposal writing, and attending meetings with potential customers where required to win new business.

Role Responsibilities

  • Consider technical and commercial aspects for new programmes and projects
  • Act as point of contact for any technical or programme issues that arise, liaising with the relevant support department to find solutions
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure their adherence to and compliance with Millbrook quality standards
  • Ensure that the Bill of Materials (BoM) are kept up-to-date and that any discrepancies and modifications are fed back via the Engineering Change Meeting
  • Ensure that the decisions agreed in the Engineering Change Meeting are realised
  • Ensure that all production and aftersales documentation required is developed and maintained in accordance with the programmes
  • Mentor, manage and develop you team, identifying training needs and skills requirements
  • Ensure compliance of the team with the Millbrook systems and procedures
  • Support and develop the attitude of Continuous Improvement across the function
  • Chair technical review meetings with customers
  • Ensure that requirements for Safety Cases are understood and compliant to the requirements of the customer
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for Millbrook staff at all times

Essential Criteria

Qualifications
  • Educated to degree-level or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical / Electronic Engineering
Experience
  • Managing a team of Engineers to deliver automotive conversion programmes
  • Customer and user engagement
  • Delivering against customer-specified requirements
  • Building and maintaining customer relationships
Skills
  • Detailed knowledge of vehicle systems, legislative requirements and equipment supplier capabilities
  • PC skills including, but not limited to, CAD, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure to tight deadlines without supervision
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to persuade and influence at all levels
  • Problem solving
