Senior Technician (Electrical Discipline) - Propulsion

 

Location: Leyland
Shift Pattern: 4x 12 hour shifts

Job Summary

Reporting to - Supervisor

Assist delivery of the planned Departmental workload including delivery of commercial projects, internal improvement actions and supporting planned and unplanned maintenance by working with Engineers and taking direction and instruction from the Supervisor.  Support a culture of continuous improvement to help drive improvements in safety and security, customer service and technical excellence.

 

Role Responsibilities

Health, Safety, Environment & Security

  • Ensure appropriate PPE is being used at all times in designated areas
  • Ensure H&S procedures & processes are being followed
  • Ensure appropriate security measures are being used in the labs
  • Maintain housekeeping to high standards

 

Customer service

  • Work with Engineers and Supervisors to meet/exceed customer expectations
  • Ensure all work is completed in a timely manner and to a professional standard
  • Report any problems immediately to the Supervisor
  • Engage in contributing to all continuous improvement activities

Technical excellence

  • Maintain training to perform assigned tasks
  • Build test rigs, install instrumentation and prepare test samples, monitor testing and complete test logs
  • Maintenance and upkeep of equipment
  • Accurate collection and validation of data to prove integrity
  • Develop best working practises

 

Compliance

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Comply with appropriate ISO procedures

 

Human Resources

  • Provide training to others when requested

 

Financial performance

  • Develop initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency
  • Liaise with Supervisor to ensure targets are met
  • Immediately inform the Engineer in charge of the project of any problems that may have a financial impact on the project

Criteria

Qualifications

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification

 

Experience

  • Engine/automotive background
  • Test bed calibration (instrumentation, dynos)
  • Prototype engine strip/build
  • Good understanding of Gasoline and diesel engine operation
  • Competent in PC usage with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Skills in electronic, electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics
  • Instrumentation experience (Thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.)
  • Fabrication skills

 

Skills

  • Must have a sound automotive/commercial background preferably in an engine testing environment.
  • Understanding of complex engines, testing techniques and associated equipment and tools.
  • Skills in electronic, electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics
  • Good knowledge in the use of engine test cell equipment
  • Good fault finding experience with an electric/electronic bias on modern engines and automotive/commercial systems.
  • Instrumentation experience (Thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.)
  • Knowledge of test bed hardware and software
  • Understanding of test bed controls (PID controls, throttle control, fuel handling
  • Ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams
  • Familiar with CAN and LIN communication protocols
  • Understanding or willingness to learn about 48V components and technology
  • Fabrication skills
  • Good general IT skills especially MS Excel and Word
