Niche Vehicle
Development
The Challenge
A well respected company specialising in turnkey development and production of niche vehicles asked Millbrook to provide the test and validation support for a complete vehicle test programme. The new vehicle was to be developed using a carry over platform, power unit and running gear. Major BIW changes were expected to satisfy the design expectations of the end customer.
 The Millbrook Approach
As with any major vehicle development programme close cooperation between the key partners is paramount to retain control of key issues such as timing and cost. The scope of the project meant that a dedicated Project Management and Test team were established to ensure the agreed deliverables were met. A clear definition of roles and responsibilities enabled Millbrook to manage all aspects of the test programme utilising the world class facilities available to it. A fleet of 44 vehicles and test modules were tested during the course of the 12 month programme. Responsibilities included;–
- Component and sub-system performance and durability
- Vehicle performance and durability
- Passenger and Vehicle Safety
- Validation and Certification
A number of test challenges were successfully managed during the project including the development of unique test procedures and rigs, for example a unique vehicle monsoon test, to satisfy specific test standard requirements from the OEM manufacturer. Millbrook was also able to demonstrate its flexible approach to the management of the test work and adapt where necessary to encompass new deadlines as they evolved during the programme.
The Solution
The joint team demonstrated through clear roles and responsibilities a complex niche vehicle programme can be delivered successfully within the time and cost constraints imposed by the OEM customer.
