Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Millbrook uses a range of test tracks, instrumentation and soft targets to test Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and vehicle active safety features, including those of self-driving cars.

Millbrook’s test facilities and proving grounds allow a wide range of controlled and semi-controlled driving scenarios to be set up. They test systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Parking and Lane Support, and those found in driverless cars.

Instrumentation and Soft Targets used for ADAS testing include:

  • OxTS RT3003 inertial and navigational measurements with 1cm positional accuracy
  • Time aligned and fully synchronised data acquisition hardware and software
  • ABD Torus steering robot with torque measuring and full path following capabilities
  • ABD combined brake and accelerator robot
  • Moshon EuroNCAP Vehicle Target (EVT) with towing rig
  • ABD Guided Soft Target (GST) and DRI Global Vehicle Target
  • ABD Launchpad
  • Pedestrian and cyclist motion rigs - dual and single belt
  • 4a articulating adult and child pedestrian dummies
  • 4a bicycle and cyclist dummy
  • Full synchronisation between test vehicle and targets
  • Scope for additional sensors and cameras to record vehicle warnings and other parameters
