Job Description

Reporting to – Manager – Vehicle / Battery

Battery department is responsible for providing Battery/Module/Cell testing services, including performance, life cycle, durability, abuse, strip & rate.

Role is to lead Facilities support for all Battery test capability, including Preventative Maintenance, Calibration, Breakdown Support


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical support for UTAC Battery Engineering team preparing Battery Facilities to perform tests activities according to customer requirements
  • Lead corrective and preventive maintenance on Battery testing HV and Automation systems
  • Conducts investigations and prepares reports to support investigations on HV and Automation systems
  • Identify failures and suggest modifications to testing systems
  • Assure all instruments are calibrated and generating reliable data
  • Lead technical support and training for Battery testing staff
  • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations
  • To report, review and provide authorisation of results
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times


Person Specification

  • Degree or equivalent in technical/electrical disciplines
  • 17th/18th Edition Electrical training would be an advantage


Core competencies:
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and organisational skills in the context of handling multiple items
  • Electrical cabinets and typical components knowledge (ref Battery Cyclers or Drive Systems)
  • Highly skilled in automotive test automation systems such as Horiba STARS, AVL PUMA, AVL Lynx or Kratzer PAtools
  • Ability to utilize HV diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and clamp meters with best safety practices
  • Aptitude to repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Software coding and scripting skills are highly desirable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills


Advantageous Qualities:
  • Must have experience using wiring diagrams and harness drawings
  • Experience working with HV electrical and automation systems
  • Experience with Instrumentation including thermocouples and pressure transducers
  • Should be familiar to test beds main controls including PID tuning, actuators, and BMS
  • Battery testing environment familiarity is desirable
  • Automotive background is desirable
