Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Engineer to join the Powertrain Engine Test Centre at Millbrook. The successful candidate will be responsible for customer test programmes, from running the tests through to gathering the data and generating test reports. This will be testing whole vehicles or complete powertrains and drivelines using the new 4E facility.

Role Responsibilities

  • Ensure all H&S and quality procedures have been adhered to
  • Run customer test programs with high levels of efficiency
  • Generate powertrain installation packs and schematics for accurate test bed setups
  • Identify engine and vehicle faults and lead effective solutions
  • Processing and validation of test data to a high standard
  • Analysing test data and understanding correct trends
  • Generate test reports tailored to specific customer requirements
  • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations
  • To report, review and provide authorisation of results
  • Track project efficiency and maintain project related invoicing
  • Work well within a team environment
  • Develop initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency
  • Develop best working practises and provide training to technicians
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for Millbrook staff at all times

Essential Criteria


  • Automotive/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Degree or HND with relevant experience


  • Engine validation exposure, including engine management systems.
  • Good understanding of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical fundamentals
  • HiL testing of engines and powertrains
  • Vehicle communication network
  • Vehicle testing experience would be advantageous


  • Project and time management
  • Organised with good communication skills
  • Technical competence with a methodical approach
  • Understanding of complex powertrains, testing techniques and associated equipment and tools
  • Used engine test cell equipment & software including engine dynos, instrumentation and calibration tools
  • Skills in electronic, electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics
  • Knowledge of powertrain systems and sub-systems
  • Knowledge of Bosch Engine Management Systems (others would be useful)
  • Understanding of transmissions
  • Understanding of vehicle integration architecture
  • Conversant with CAN protocols and CANbus networks
  • Creation and management of dbc files
  • Knowledge of Modelling and Simulation techniques
  • Used Modelling & Simulation packages in Hardware in the Loop (HIL) test rigs
  • Experienced user of analytical software tools to handle large volumes of data
  • Ability to understand, interpret and evaluate numerical data
  • Strong IT skills especially MS Excel
  • Good understanding of H&S practices
