Job Summary
Reporting to – Senior Engineer
The primary function of the role is to assist in the planned departmental workload including:
- Preparation of instrumentation to support internal projects
- Maintenance, planned and unplanned, of existing facilities
- Calibration of stand-alone instruments and instrumentation packages
- Liaise with the requesting engineers to ensure that customer requirements are understood and being met
- Suggest / Assist with internal improvement actions
- Support a culture of continuous improvement to help drive improvements in safety and security, customer service and technical excellence.
Roles and responsibilities
Health, Safety, Environment & Security
- Ensure appropriate PPE is being used at all times in designated areas
- Ensure H&S procedures & processes are being followed
- Ensure appropriate security measures are being used in the labs
- Maintain housekeeping to high standards
Customer service
- Work with Engineers and Supervisors to meet/exceed customer expectations
- Ensure all work is completed in a timely manner and to a professional standard
- Report any problems immediately to the Supervisor
- Engage in contributing to all continuous improvement activities
Technical excellence
- Maintain training to perform assigned tasks
- Installation of instrumentation on test rigs and vehicles to the highest standards
- Maintenance and upkeep of equipment
- Ensure that instrumentation performs to the requirements detailed in test standard(s) being used
- Develop best working practices
Compliance
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Comply with appropriate ISO procedures
Human Resources
- Provide training to others when requested
Financial performance
- Immediately inform the engineer in charge of the project of any problems that may have a financial impact on the project
- Liaise with supervisor to ensure targets are met

Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering / Instrumentation apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
Experience
- Automotive background
- Understanding of Calibration Procedures
- Competent in PC usage with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Skills in electronic and electrical problem diagnosis
- Instrumentation experience (data loggers, thermocouples, pressure transducers, strain gauges etc.)
Skills
- Must have a sound background in instrumentation.
- Skills in electronic and electrical diagnostics
- Good knowledge of calibration procedures
- Good fault finding experience on modern instrumentation
- Able to create measurement packages from stand-alone instrumentation
- Understanding of National Instruments LabVIEW
- Good general IT skills
