Engineer Engine Test – CEC / Fuels & Lubes

Job Description

Reporting to - Manager – ETC Engineering Team

Location - Millbrook, Bedfordshire

Roles and responsibilities

  • Ensure all H&S and quality procedures have been adhered to
  • Run customer engine test programs relating to fuel and oil additives with high levels of efficiency
  • Generate engine installation packs and schematics for accurate test bed setups
  • Work in compliance with CEC and ISO17025 procedures and best practice
  • Identify engine/test delivery faults and lead effective solutions
  • Processing and validation of engine test data to a high standard
  • Analysing engine data and understanding correct trends and causes for concern
  • Generate ISO-standard test reports tailored to specific customer requirements
  • Track project efficiency and maintain project related invoicing
  • Deliver engine fuels testing projects for a variety of customers as part of a dedicated team
  • Develop initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency
  • Develop best working practises and provide training to technicians
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times
  • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations

 Person Specification

 Qualifications
  • Automotive/Mechanical Engineering Degree or HND with relevant experience
Experience
  • 5 years minimum experience in an automotive engineering discipline
  • Experience in Fuel & Lubes industry advantageous
  • Test bed experience in an automotive testing environment
  • Engine validation exposure, including basic engine management systems would be advantageous
  • Good understanding of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical fundamentals
  • Instrumentation experience (thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.)
  • Experience with multiple fuel injection technologies of benefit (carburettors, IDI, PFI, DI)
  • Use of test bed controls (PID controls, throttle/speed/torque) together with familiarity in how to create test automation procedures/schedules
  • Specialist fuel and additive handling and blending advantageous
Skills
  • Ability to project manage multiple projects for multiple customers simultaneously including financial reporting
  • Understanding of engine fundamentals and materials characteristics
  • Skills in electronic, electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics
  • A strong background in the use of engine test cell equipment & software including engine dynos, instrumentation and calibration tools
  • Experience and understanding of emissions measurement equipment would be advantageous
  • Understand of fuel and oil additive testing techniques specifically as defined by the CEC is advantageous as would direct experience of running CEC testing in a test cell environment
  • Working knowledge and experience of Horiba STARS test automation system advantageous
  • Data interpretation, critique and presentation, using Excel and AVL Concerto
  • Ability to write formal reports that meet UKAS and ISO17025 accreditation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
