Overview

UTAC provides vehicle test, validation and engineering services to customers in the automotive, transport, tyre, petrochemical, defence and security industries. It is independent and impartial in everything it does.

It has a range of test facilities for components and full vehicles. These include varied indoor and outdoor test tracks in the UK and Northern Finland, engine dynamometers, environmental chambers, crash laboratories and advanced emissions chassis dynamometers.

Job Description

Reporting to: Principal Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for the test emissions equipment and to test engineers.
  • Enhance facility uptime levels to achieve best in class operational efficiency.
  • Procurement of new equipment and support CapEx projects.
  • Manage maintenance and calibration of all test equipment.
  • Standardise and integrate the facility test equipment.
  • Resolve any equipment issues that cannot be resolved at the operational level.
  • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations.
  • To report, review and provide authorisation of results.
  • Ensure all H&S and quality procedures have been adhered to UTAC quality systems and health and safety procedures.
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times.

Person Specification

Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent
 Core competencies:
  • Must have experience of measurement devices, such as analytical analysers, Particle Number, FTIR’s, preferably within automotive test.
  • Chassis dynamometer (service, calibration, and troubleshooting).
  • General Instrumentation (thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.).
  • Automotive background preferably in an engine testing or chassis dynamometer environment.
Advantageous Qualities:
  •  Significant knowledge of gas emissions measurement systems and related data acquisition.
  • Understanding of constant volume sampler (CVS) systems.
  • Skills in electronics, electrical and PCB.
  • Familiar with general instrumentation (thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.).
  • Equipment service & calibrations scheduling.
  • Good understanding of quality systems.
  • General IT skills especially MS Excel.
  • AVL Concerto, AVL iGEM and AVL PUMA knowledge are highly desirable.
