Job Description

We have an opportunity for a dedicated Health and Safety Manager to lead the health and safety agenda in the UK. If you are based in or around the East of England and looking for a multi-site role in a valued and visible position, this is a fantastic opening to join our Group.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for providing technical, specialist health and safety support and guidance to the operational business whilst working closely with other functions, including HR, Business Excellence and other Business Stakeholders in the UK.

As the Health and Safety Manager, you will be capable of the key activities:

  • Ensure the successful implementation of roadmaps and operation of the management systems;
  • Support the overall strategy of continuous improvement for health and safety initiatives;
  • Develop and implement various programmes necessary to meet the health and safety goals;
  • Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership, training and support for various testing facilities and departments;
  • Provide subject matter expertise for specific risks;
  • Ensure legal requirements and risks are identified and understood at a leadership and local level;
  • Provide support for the evaluation of training needs, development and the delivery of training;
  • Support high potential incident investigations, providing detailed feedback of findings and advice in a manner which enhances the company capability; 
  • Further improve performance through the implementation of health and safety management systems, including 45001, and other current standards and legislation;
  • Support HR in the develop of appropriate wellbeing programmes;
  • Initiate and oversee a Health and Safety change programme across the organisation with the support of colleagues, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming health and safety legislation and ensure that the systems and procedures in place meet legal compliance and other requirements;
  • Work proactively with managers and other key colleagues to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of health, safety and wellbeing within their areas of responsibility;
  • Oversee and undertake audits where appropriate and ensure an action plan with SMART objectives is established to address issues identified;
  • Manage, coach and enable the health and safety team, to support the delivery of H&S programmes including equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage and maintain management systems;
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times

 

Person Specification

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent - essential);
  • Hold (or working towards) Chartered status to the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CFIOSH);
Experience
  • A minimum of 5+ years’ experience of working in a health and safety role at a similar level – preferred to be within an automotive/engineering role; and bringing about culture change within an organisation.
  • The Health and Safety Manager must have line management experience including providing positive support, advice and encouragement in colleagues development.
  • Experience in completing health and safety management audits against ISO 45001 and implementing action plans to meet audit findings and successfully managing projects.
  • Experience in training, coaching and mentoring to develop health and safety knowledge and expertise in the UK.
Skills
  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all aspects of health, safety and risk management;
  • A comprehensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation, management and standards;
  • Ability to interpret and provide authoritative advice on health and safety risk management issues;
  • Knowledge of workplace wellbeing initiatives and how they add value to an organisation;
  • Ability to prioritise work to ensure tasks are completed within time constraints;
  • Good working knowledge of sustainable business issues;
  • Competent IT skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Other
  • Due to the location of UTAC - Millbrook and the requirement for some travel to test services based in Leyland, applicants would require a Full UK driving licence and own transport and/or good access to public transport links;
