IT Infrastructure Support Specialist

Reporting to – IT Manager

Become part of a small team providing 1st to 3rd line support for systems and infrastructure in a complex, busy and very fluid environment. Assist in the selection, design, implementation and deployment of new systems and applications across the Millbrook group of companies.

This is a very hands-on role requiring excellent technical skills and a broad knowledge of technology and systems with a particular focus on networking and security.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To manage and monitor the existing infrastructure and systems, perform preventative maintenance work and other regular support activities to ensure their effectiveness
  • To respond to 2nd / 3rd line Service Desk calls and manage such items through to resolution or escalate them to another member of the team if required
  • Ensure the security and integrity of data and IT systems at all times.
  • Educating staff on good working practices
  • To liaise with external suppliers and support agencies for the ongoing support and maintenance of relevant hardware, networks and software
  • To ensure that all work and changes are performed in such a way as to minimise all disruption to existing business use. Provide specialist knowledge and participate in change management process
  • To assist in designing and documenting infrastructure processes, procedures and standards and to maintain or prepare system and software documentation as directed
  • To keep users up to date with progress and to liaise with staff in an appropriate manner. To liaise with users regarding escalated issues and to agree appropriate courses of action and priorities
  • Investigate opportunities to improve systems and processes within the department and across the business.
  • Review the latest technology and trends in IT and how they fit in with the requirements of the business
  • Undertake project work as directed by the IT Manager
  • Duties will vary and be revised due to the nature of the IT environment (above is a guide and not a comprehensive list of responsibilities)

Person Specification

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience supporting a varied IT infrastructure
  • Firewall, Networking, SAN/NAS and Microsoft certifications (or equivalent) advantageous
Experience
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Technologies, Windows Servers (2008-2019)
  • Strong experience of Network Switches, firewalls and Wi-Fi (familiarity Extreme Networks an advantage)
  • Experience managing Active Directory and Group Policies.
  • Comprehensive Experience with VMWare, vCentre, & ESXi.(6.5)
  • Good understanding of Storage, SAN, NAS & Backup Technologies (Nimble storage arrays advantageous)
  • Experience of working in an ISO27001, TISAX and/or CE+ environment and maintaining accreditations advantageous
  • Linux/Unix experience an advantage
  • Any exposure to 4G/5G/802.11p an advantage
