Our Culture

At Millbrook, we are passionate about Safety, Customer Service and Technical Excellence.  We are proud of what we do and have achieved this by empowering our workforce and building a relationship of loyalty and trust.

Working here is exciting; we are a key part of the automotive industry in the UK and our facilities are seen as a national asset. We are investing in our business to create new state-of-the-art testing facilities and to develop applications for world-leading, low-carbon transportation technologies. These investments create a demand for skilful individuals with a strong work ethic and relevant experience.  We continue to seek highly skilled employees to complement our creative, innovative, flexible, bright and adaptable teams.

On a quarterly basis our President, Alex Burns, meets with  the whole workforce to present updates on company performance and business objectives.  This is an opportunity for employees to put forward questions about the business plan and how they can impact its achievement.

We appreciate the value of being in an environment where we are constantly learning, and it motivates us even more because we know we are part of a team where everyone’s ideas and contributions are recognised through formal and informal programmess.

We strive to be the best in the world at what we do and can only achieve this with the commitment we receive from our employees.

Our Behaviours

We have cultural behaviours which we promote across the business:

Health & Safety

Everybody must work in a safe manner, considering the safety of themselves and others at all times.

Honesty & Integrity

We operate an ‘Open Door’ culture and expect our employees to be reliable and truthful about their ability to meet commitments.

Customer Focus

Maintain the attitude that customer service is paramount.  Provide customers with service that exceeds expectations.

Understand the importance of commitment and delivery on promises made.

Loyal & Professional

Exhibit loyalty to the company and display professional behaviour at all times.

Complete work in a safe, timely and professional manner with the minimum of supervision.

Take on additional tasks or transfer to another department in a professional manner as and when required to meet business needs.

Professional Accreditation

We will fund and support professional accreditations through an approved body.  In most cases the Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) will be the appropriate route for accreditation.

We meet the costs of professional membership during the accreditation process and once it has been awarded. To further support employee accreditation, we assign a professionally registered mentor.

We are accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Training and Personal Development

People are our most important asset, and developing and training employees is fundamental to business success. We develop our employees through individual objectives and tailored development plans that are reviewed with management on a regular basis.

We believe that learning takes a variety of forms. They include training, development workshops, stretch assignments and job shadowing, all of which are made available to our workforce in order to develop and hone their skills and expertise.

To ensure our employees stay on the right tracks we follow a structured yearly appraisal process. Regular reviews encourage employees to evaluate their contributions and performance as well as identify where they feel they need further development.

Our projects are focused on testing, validating and demonstrating the vehicle technologies of the future and we want our people to adopt the same forward-thinking attitude. For those wishing to progress within the business we recognise High Potential individuals and support them to achieve their goal.

It is important that all new starters to feel welcome and comfortable from their first day.

We offer a comprehensive induction plan, including presentations from senior managers across the business, training and, for those who need full site access, driver training including skid car training.

Every new employee is invited to a fully expensed lunch on their first day with their line manager or colleague.

We encourage employees to attend social events on site such as Radio Control Cars Club, Five-a-Side Football and running and bike clubs.

On an annual basis, we host a charitable event called the MAD 5K.  The 5km course is set within our off-road tracks and sand dunes – a challenging course for even the most experienced of runners! We welcome participants from within and outside of the organisation, generating plenty of competition – and all in the name of a good cause!
