Chief Engineer - Battery
Peter joined Millbrook in 2018 as the Chief Engineer for Battery. He provides expert knowledge and experience in the technical and practical aspects of battery technology.
Peter completed his PhD, based on the design and test of easily testable electronic systems, at the University of Hull.
Peter started his industrial career at Control and Readout Ltd where he became R&D director. When Control Techniques purchased the company, he became R&D director of Control Techniques Process Controls.
Peter then moved to Motorola Automotive and Industrial Group, becoming its European director of technology. Here, his team developed new technologies and transferred them to production programs. In this role, he was heavily involved in higher voltage automotive systems, which led to ISO 21848.
He then moved on to be Director of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Ricardo, where Peter was Ricardo’s technical expert in batteries and battery management systems. Following this, Peter worked at Johnson Matthey Battery Systems for 6 years as Chief Electronics Technologist. During his time at Ricardo and Johnson Matthey he was lucky enough to work on both the Bugatti Veyron and the McLaren P1 hypercars and to play a key role in a number of research programs included the EU FW7 SmartBatt program “Smart and Safe Integration of Batteries in Electric Vehicles”.
He has worked with a large number of battery chemistries including all the main lithium ion chemistries. He has extensive knowledge of testing, modelling and control of batteries, for function, life and safety.
Peter is a Chartered Engineer and a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and of the Association for Computing Machinery. He has over 30 patent families filed or granted and over 100 technical papers and conference presentations.

Peter played a key role in the preparation, set-up and launch of a brand new Battery Test Facility at Millbrook, which opened in 2019.
