Job Description

Reporting to – Managing Director – Testing Services

The position will provide a point of contact for technical issues related to electrification subsystems testing, in particular batteries, EDU’s, and high voltage power electronics.

Proactively working with the Commercial organization from an expert technical point of view during the whole sales process and improving the response times to customers for non-standard proposals and supporting the operations to deliver technical excellence to our customers.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Chief Engineer, battery.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Electrification subsystems - Technical Sales Lead:
    • Technical lead for feasibility and approval of non-standard customer quotations
    • Establish time, quality, cost objectives
    • Identify and coordinate internal and outside resources to deliver a technical solution with the Global Activity manager – electrification.
    • Support development of effective, safe engineering solutions and test methods
    • Technical liaison with customers, stakeholders and suppliers
    • Maintain understanding and gather latest knowledge on best practice
  • Electrification subsystems - Operations Technical support:
    • To provide leadership on test rig design and testing.
    • Technical problem resolution and lessons learnt lead
    • Support CAPEX evolution,
    • Continually seek ways to improve the business and align the team to this activity
  • A small percentage of time will also be taken up with expertise and innovation (CTO domain) – participation, supporting the Chief Engineer – Battery.
  • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations
  • To report, review and provide authorisation of results

Person Specification

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic or software Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Ideally an MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Very good understanding of vehicle engineering technology applications related to electrification (batteries, EDU’s and related systems including power electronics).
  • Very good knowledge of relevant vehicle regulatory legislation in particular UN/ECE Reg. 100, Reg. 132 and “38.3” for batteries, ISO 16750 and IEC60068 for more general electrification sub-system testing.
  • Knowledge of related off-road and non-automotive regulations and standards would be an advantage.
  • Ability to read and understand technical test specifications and procedures, and proven ability to design test rigs and deliver tests to such specifications.
  • Very good understanding of the health and safety issues and safe working practices relating to vehicle electrification subsystems (batteries, EDU’s and related systems including power electronics).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good organization & communication skills with a capacity to present at Board Level.
  • Management/supervisory experience.
  • Experience in root cause analysis e.g. 8D or similar
  • Experienced in technical report writing and approving.
  • Good knowledge of ISO 17025.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and computer based file structures
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to create and analyse electrical/electronic schematics.
  • Ability to create software scripts to automate tasks or solve complex problems.
Physical Requirements:
  • The successful candidate will be required to be able to examine all the test environments and equipment that may be used for electrification testing which will require good mobility and a degree of bending, stooping, crouching and manual dexterity.
