Technician - Calibration

Location: Millbrook Proving Ground - Bedford, UK
Reporting to – Calibration Manager

Job Description

As a Calibration Technician, you would be responsible for conducting calibration and repair operations, following procedures and ensuring compliance with Client contractual and KPI obligations.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Calibration, processing and record keeping of instrumentation to traceable and UKAS standards (ISO 17025:2017)
  • Identify and develop productivity improvement opportunities and support operational efficiency projects and KPIs
  • Maintain calibration instrumentation, equipment, and facilities to required standards (5S)
  • Conduct all duties in accordance with company health and safety procedures, policies and safe system of Work
  • Complete all assigned quality and continuous improvement activities in accordance with company procedures
  • Produce, review, develop and audit calibration procedures in accordance with company requirements and from clients and auditor recommendations
  • Provide technical support and guidance on request
  • Participate in inter-laboratory measurement audits
  • Participate in external/internal audits as required within the facility
  • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations
  • To report, review and provide authorisation of results
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC CERAM Millbrook staff at all times

Person Specification

  • Extensive demonstrable experience in understanding calibration, both practical and theory
  • Formal qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably electrical / metrology based)
  • Knowledge of automotive / safety / crash / battery testing instrumentation an advantage
  • Experience in the calibration of multi-parameter test rigs. Pressure, temperature, angular rate, dimensional, flow, torque, force and moments)
  • A bias towards electrical calibration would be beneficial, particularly high-voltage, high-current
  • Working knowledge of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017
  • Strong mathematical/statistical ability
  • Advanced Excel user with the ability to create spreadsheets from complex data
  • Basic understanding of Windows-based and Laboratory automation software, e.g. Labview
  • Experience of a laboratory management system preferably Indysoft / MetCal etc.
  • Good coordination/dexterity in order to undertake manual adjustments on high accuracy instrumentation
  • Proven ability to fault find instrumentation problems and affect repairs as required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
