Millbrook welcomed visitors to its newly refurbished full-scale crash laboratory to witness a UN ECE Regulation 95 (side impact) test demonstration and join an informal Q&A with experts in passive and active safety and battery testing. Millbrook’s newly-appointed Chief Engineer – Safety, Kieran Forinton, also joined the demonstration to greet the attendees and answer questions.
The facility has undergone a spectacular transformation, and this demonstration was a good opportunity to take stock and give visitors a first-hand experience of the changes. As well as the more traditional crash testing, including corkscrew roll-over, pole, side impact, gravel trip and frontal impact tests, Millbrook is increasingly undertaking more complex tests such as IIHS Small offset, both left and right configurations, and eCall tests. Millbrook conducts ERA-GLONASS eCall testing in conjunction with the Russian authorities, and European-witnessed ECE R94 frontal tests including eCall (EU 2017/79) and TRIAS 17 (EV/HEV) in conjunction with the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA).
Millbrook is undertaking a facility transformation in its full scale crash laboratory in the UK. The team has re-modelled the flow in the facility, which is now being reflected in its upgrades. These include a full refurbishment of the workshops, covered secure storage, secure receiving area and a new customer environment. The new electric drive system, which will be operational in December, will offer state-of-the-art speed tolerance control and reliability not matched in the UK.
