This month, 12 World and 6 UK Speed Endurance Records were officially broken on Millbrook’s world renowned tracks.
Millbrook, the newly independent technology centre for the design, engineering, test and development of automotive and propulsion systems, played host to the record breaking feat, which saw two standard Vauxhall Astras circulate the High Speed Bowl 1,500 times and cover over 3,000 miles in 24 hours.
The High Speed Bowl, which has a 2 mile circumference and five banked lanes, allowing neutral steer operation at 100mph and is used regularly up to 150mph, saw the Astras’ fastest lap achieved in 55.453 seconds at an average speed of 131.852mph, just 2.148mph below the car’s official top speed.
Martin Hughes, Group Head of Operations said: “Millbrook is proud to have facilitated such a huge achievement for one of our major car company clients. Our comprehensive range of facilities and services enable us to meet almost any requirements our customers have, no matter how unusual they may seem.”
“Client confidentiality and security is a top priority at Millbrook and our enclosed and secure site, which is manned and patrolled 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, meant we were the ideal location for this record breaking challenge.”
