Millbrook has opened a purpose-built PEMS workshop next door to its other emissions measurement laboratories to offer greater flexibility for test programmes. Millbrook is well established as the leading independent and impartial provider of PEMS testing to the automotive sector and is approved to RDE package 3. It caters for light, heavy and off-road vehicles, providing crucial RDE measurements for pollutants including NOx, PN, and CO2.
The new emissions test facility includes a dedicated calibration area for the measurement equipment and climatic soak boxes with a temperature range of -20°C to +50°C for forced simulation of cold start conditions. The facility also has external parking bays with electric vehicle charging capability. The parking bays, located close to the proving ground exit, include power supplies so that vehicles can be prepared for ambient RDE tests from an ambient cold start and driven directly onto Millbrook’s extensive tracks and its RDE-compliant public routes.
Millbrook is currently running five regulation-compliant PEMS units on industry-critical RDE test programmes. These units are fully correlated to its 4WD climatic emissions chassis dynamometer, a legal requirement for certification testing, to ensure data validity. In addition, Millbrook’s engineers optimise how programmes are run to achieve accurate, same-day reporting of emissions test results to facilitate faster development of vehicle technologies.

As well as RDE testing, Millbrook extensively uses its PEMS equipment for product benchmarking and accreditation tests for programmes such as the HGV accreditation scheme and CVRAS.
