Official Opening of the Battery Test Facility
Millbrook’s Battery Test Facility has been officially opened on the first day of Cenex-LCV as the UK’s latest, and biggest, private investment in independent battery testing.
The facility complements Millbrook’s expansion into California, USA, to support electric vehicle development.
Official Opening of the Autonomous Village
This year, Cenex-LCV is co-located with the new Cenex-Connected Automated Mobility event. In addition opening its Battery Test Facility, Millbrook has also opened its Autonomous Village, launched its CAV testbed and demonstrated real-time data transfers, 5G and simulation.
The facility includes six purpose-built workshops completed to support mechanical, integration and software development for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), from passenger cars to buses.

Millbrook is best known for its varied outdoor and indoor test tracks in the UK and Northern Finland where it performs repeatable tests in a safe and secure environment and hosts world-class vehicle-related events. Millbrook also has a range of test facilities in the UK, US and Finland for full vehicles, tyres and components. These include engine dynamometers, environmental chambers, e-motor and e-axle test cells, portable emissions measurement systems (PEMS), structural test laboratories, crash laboratories, interior systems laboratories, battery test facilities and advanced emissions chassis dynamometers.
With the increasing electrification of vehicle powertrains and connectivity of vehicle systems, Millbrook is focusing on the safety, performance, durability and understanding of these technologies.
It is making a significant investment in the people, equipment and facilities required to become the UK’s first 5G and controlled urban test bed for connected and autonomous vehicles and the UK’s leading battery and e-propulsion test facility.
It has installed 12 battery test chambers at Millbrook Proving Ground, each able to test automotive battery packs up to 1,100V, 1,400A, 750kW over a temperature range of -40°C to +90°C, and put in place flexible plug-and-play communications, co-located virtual and physical validation capability, open-source reference vehicles, and a comprehensive physical environment for test and validation of connected and autonomous vehicles.
Delegates at the show will have the opportunity to experience the test facilities first hand at LCV and Connected Automated Mobility events, with site tours running frequently on both days from Millbrook’s stand - C3-605.
